Reading

Hover any blue link to a WikiPeatia article and a preview card with an image and a short excerpt pops up, no need to click through just to check what a page is about.

Use the magnifying-glass icon in the top navigation bar to search. It expands into a search box on click and collapses again when you're done.

Citations

The aim is pinpoint citations: text sources link straight to the exact highlighted passage on the page, and audio/video sources link to the exact timestamp, so a citation takes you directly to the moment or line it's based on, not just the general source. Citations to on-site PDFs also link to the exact printed page, opened directly in the reader.

Reading Room

Full PDF books and newsletters are available from the Library. Click any title to open it in the built-in in-browser reader, a page-flipping viewer that loads pages as you go, no downloads or new tabs needed.

Search and Ask

search.wikipeatia.org is a separate search engine covering the full source corpus behind the wiki, books, interviews, newsletters, forum posts, and more, not just wiki articles.

  • Ask – type a question instead of keywords and get a direct answer with citations back to the exact passages it's drawn from.
  • Go deeper – expand an Ask answer into a longer, more thorough one without starting the question over.
  • Voices – browse the corpus by author or speaker: doc counts, years active, and their most discussed topics, each one a link into a pre-filtered search rather than a static bio.

Dark and light mode

The sun/moon icon in the top navigation bar switches between dark and light mode. Your choice is remembered on your next visit.

Canvas and Lite mode

On the landing page, you can select Lite mode if you don't care for any interactive, animated or pretty features and are here just to get knowledge and avoid the bloat and gimmicks. Lite is a separate, much smaller build of the site: same articles and tools, stripped-down styling, no graph, no galleries, no music player, all so it loads faster on slow connections or old devices.

Skins

Beyond canvas/classic mode, WikiPeatia supports several full alternate skins if the default look isn't for you: Vector (the classic Wikipedia look), MonoBook, Timeless, and Foreground. Mobile visitors stay on the default skin too, just with a simplified mobile layout. To change your skin, go to Special:Preferences and open the Skin tab. You'll need a free account to save the choice.

Tooltips

Page links on hover show an introduction, this can be disabled by clicking the gear icon when the explanation pops up.

Talk pages

Every article has a talk page (click "Discussion" on the article, or go to Talk:Article name) for questions, sourcing debates, and proposed changes that aren't ready to edit into the article directly. Talk pages are public and not required reading, but worth checking before you ask something that may already have been discussed.

Contributions

Works on an approve basis. Anything you add or edit will wait until an approval of an admin.

Interactive tools

The Tools menu in the navigation bar links to the site's built-in tools:

Explore differently

  • Iceberg – an interactive, zoomable map of bioenergetic topics from mainstream to fringe.
  • Page graph – a node-link map of how articles connect to each other, opened from the graph icon available on article pages.
  • Music player – a small persistent player in the corner of the site with music related to the topics discussed here.
  • Paintings, Photo gallery and Meme gallery – Beautiful photos, paintings and memes with custom made galleries for each, related to the site's subject matter, click any image to zoom.
