Autoimmune
Autoimmune disease means immune attack on self tissues. Examples include Hashimoto thyroiditis, celiac disease, and type 1 diabetes.
Thymus, estrogen, and thyroid
[edit]The thymus regulates the immune system, and its age-related shrinkage tracks rising "autoimmune" disease incidence. Radiation, PUFA, estrogen, and heavy metals damage the thymus and can produce immunodeficiency while also stimulating autoimmune antibodies. Estrogen shrinks the thymus and blocks NK cells; thyroid stimulates its regeneration even after age-related atrophy; progesterone protects against the thymic atrophy produced by stress and cortisol.[1]
Animals fed diets completely lacking polyunsaturated fatty acids appear free of autoimmune disease; their tissues can even be transplanted into other animals with less antigenicity than normal.[1] Systemic lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases are usually corrected by the combined use of progesterone and thyroid, both of which help restore the thymus gland.[1]
