Cancer
Cancer is uncontrolled cell growth with genetic and metabolic features. Otto Warburg showed that many cancer cells ferment glucose to lactate even when oxygen is present. In this framework that respiratory failure is the center of the story: a tissue field of low CO2, high stress chemistry, and incomplete oxidation, not only a stack of DNA accidents.[1]
Prevention terrain and treatment of established cancer are different jobs. Established disease needs oncology. The metabolic field is that makes cancer more likely and that supportive care tries to shift.
The energy field
[edit]Healthy cells finish oxidizing fuel in mitochondria. Cancer-prone tissue leans on glycolysis, raises lactate, and loses the protective chemistry of CO₂. Estrogen, PUFA, free fatty acids, serotonin, and endotoxin push that same inefficient path in non-tumor tissue under chronic stress. Low serum bicarbonate (the clinical proxy for low CO₂) tracks worse cancer outcomes directly. In two independent cohorts of localized non-small-cell lung cancer treated with stereotactic body radiation, pre-treatment bicarbonate below 26 mEq/L predicted primary tumor recurrence (training cohort HR 5.48; validation cohort HR 3.33, both P<0.05 on multivariate analysis).[2] Georgi Dinkov (Haidut) reports the same pattern anecdotally in bloodwork sent to him by cancer patients: every case he'd seen ran below 20 mEq/L bicarbonate, well under the ~20-32 mEq/L range he described as typical, though this is an unquantified personal sample, not a study.[3]
Aspirin stimulates mitochondrial respiration and lowers prostaglandins; it appears in cancer-supportive correspondence at multi-gram daily totals with vitamin K and food, never as a substitute for medical care.[4][5] See Aspirin.
Hormones and fats
[edit]Unopposed estrogen creates aging chemistry: leakiness, poor oxidation, and growth under deprivation. Progesterone opposes that set. Polyunsaturated fats in membranes and free fatty acids impair cytochrome oxidase and feed inflammatory eicosanoids. Lower seed oils and restore progesterone-thyroid tone is one preventive arc, not a cure claim. See Estrogen, Progesterone, PUFA, Thyroid.
A meta-analysis of cohort studies found higher dietary carbohydrate intake associated with lower breast cancer incidence, mortality, and recurrence, with dietary fiber carrying the strongest effect (a 3% drop in incidence per 10 g/d increment); dietary sugar showed only a marginal positive association with incidence, and whole grain a marginal positive association with mortality despite a marginal negative one with incidence.[6]
Restoring pyruvate oxidation: dichloroacetate
[edit]Dichloroacetate (DCA) inhibits the kinase that normally suppresses pyruvate dehydrogenase, pushing glucose-derived pyruvate back into full mitochondrial oxidation instead of lactic acid, directly reversing the Warburg pattern above. In a published case report, a medullary thyroid carcinoma patient who had relapsed with widespread disease after exhausting other chemotherapy saw his calcitonin tumor marker fall from 38,611 pg/mL to 2,000 pg/mL within about 4 months of starting DCA, with a follow-up PET scan showing marked tumor reduction; the case is a single report calling for further study, not established treatment, and human trials of DCA elsewhere have shown limited efficacy and dose-limiting neuropathy.[7] See Dichloroacetate.
Cysteine dependence and ferroptosis
[edit]Cancer cells, including cancer stem cells marked by the CD44 variant isoform, depend heavily on the xCT/SLC7A11 transporter to import cystine (which becomes cysteine, the rate-limiting building block of glutathione) to buffer oxidative stress from their altered metabolism. Blocking or genetically disrupting this transporter depletes intracellular cysteine, collapses glutathione synthesis, and triggers ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death driven by lipid peroxide accumulation, selectively in cells that had come to depend on the pathway.[8]
Practice themes
[edit]Keep oxidation high: thyroid status, carbohydrate with cofactors, warmth, sleep. Lower PUFA and endotoxin. Use aspirin and vitamin K only with clear eyes about bleeding risk and medical context. Do not starve sugar as a symbolic anti-cancer act; free fatty acids and stress hormones can worsen the Warburg field. Acute cancer care is clinical.
