PMS
Appearance
PMS is the luteal-week cluster of mood, swelling, and pain when progesterone falls relative to estrogen and stress chemistry. Low thyroid worsens it. Bright light and food change the same axes that seasons change.
Peat's view
[edit]Peat traced PMS to light deprivation: women who moved to cloudy Eugene often developed premenstrual syndrome within months, and the mechanism was absence of bright light creating a progesterone deficiency that left estrogen and prolactin unopposed.[1]
Practice
[edit]Sugar, salt, protein, and light in the luteal week. Progesterone and thyroid when indicated. See Progesterone, Estrogen, Thyroid, Light, Serotonin, Harm reduction.
