Shock is circulatory failure with inadequate tissue perfusion. Trauma, sepsis, and heart failure are classic paths. Free PUFA and stress chemistry amplify shock injury in the experimental literature.

In shock, cells are in a very low energy state; ATP infusions have been found therapeutic, though simple hypertonic glucose and salt solutions are probably safer and very effective, since low cellular energy also causes veins to lose tone and pool blood instead of returning it to the heart.[1]
