Microplastics
Microplastics are tiny plastic particles now found in water, food, air, and human tissue. Long-term human health research is still young, but Ray Peat treated their small particle size itself as a meaningful concern.
Peat's view
[edit]Asked directly about reducing microplastic exposure and whether ingested microplastics behave like raw starch granules in the gut, Peat pointed to filtration and flagged a specific mechanistic worry about particle size:[1]
Reverse osmosis is the most effective practical way to filter water. Nanoparticles enter cells more easily than starch granules.
That last point matters because starch granules can themselves be absorbed intact into the bloodstream under some conditions (see Safe starches); Peat's point was that plastic nanoparticles cross into cells even more readily than that.
Practice
